My focus is to create experiences

Research and Scalable Design Systems

that cue to cause Delight.

workflow

clearing the clutter

Although I regularly revisit my approach, there is one constant pattern that seems to work best when it comes to solving problems. The stages are listed here in an order, but these often merge and seem coupled tightly with each other.

WORKFLOW

Define

This is the need-finding stage, either exploratory or elementary, the problem needs to be defined properly with relevant backing. This is preliminary, and I found blockers too often in the process when the problem statement was not defined entirely in the first place.

design

Once we arrive at a possible solution, we use prototyping as a tool to take decisions that shape the look and function of the product. The fidelity of the prototypes depends on the stage of iteration and the product cycle.

test

derive

Using methods like heuristic evaluation, and surveys. Properly analysed subjective correlations alone can open up into a whole new perspective, while quantitative measures solidify further decisions.

There is always scope for improvement, once the shortcomings of a design are identified, this review stage enables to

re-analyze and optimize based on feedback and data that correlates to possible improvements.

I've had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented and skillful people from different backgrounds, in the form of projects involving core research, hands-on design, and pure aesthetic revival. A few of these projects that I've done  are out of personal Interest and curiosity.

EXPERIENCEO

Hypebeast is the leading online destination for men’s contemporary fashion and streetwear.

HYPEBEAST's daily news section has become an important destination for those interested in the latest developments within the fashion community as well as other aspects of culturally-relevant content such as art, music, design and lifestyle.

To Re-enforce the experience for high volume consumers, the people who are really in for the Hype news, a new Horizontal Scroll Ticker was introduced on the header of the HYPEBEAST website to present short verbal(Headlines) news for quick consumption.

As part of this project, I got to develop my first automated user account (HypeBot) from scratch whose function is to react with a heart emote when someone posts an image, this is limited to their internal chat threads where the real community is active on a daily basis.

Exotel

Building and maintaining a Design Language Library

Exotel enables you to manage your business call needs in one place through its dashboard, when I first started working here as a designer we Identified the need to have a unified visual identity across Exotel's channels, as a part of this we first started with identifying our inconsistencies and came up with a style guide and process framework to incorporate in our design cycles. During this scheme the learning was immense, involving research about existing design systems and methods to maintain a design system. We came across Uxpin for the first time and found the design system tool was what we exactly needed and opted for it as our main resource library.

After recreating our assets in an easily accessible environment, creating Iterations and sharing screen specs occurred much faster considering some projects which involved a lot of to and fro discussions. The library was our go-to place during our design cycles and the tool had other features enable easy communication with our developers and product managers.

Needfinding

The Idea started when we were curious about ways to extend the capabilities of voice. We considered various topics which had some potential and found providing counselling over a call would be a good starting point, there was little research involved but was mostly driven by empirical evidence that people can use a go-to number to call when they need help about something, that was one undeniable pattern that we observed.

We quickly created a website and put out an Exophone (Powered by Exotel) which can be called out by the seekers to get connected to the expert, we wanted to keep things simple early on so we were really open to solving any type of problem.

Prototyping

Although it's too soon to start building or coding out a solution that we thought was Ideal, we went ahead and made a few paper prototypes leading to a quick high fidelity pixel prototype (Thanks to figma) to see if all the stakeholders were headed in a common direction. We used this figma prototype to try the wizard of oz prototyping technique to test the usability, and also to see if a standalone App was the right solution in the first place.

Amazon Polly provides dozens of languages and a wide selection of natural-sounding male and female voices. When you send a text to Amazon Polly’s API, it returns the audio to your application as a stream so you can play the voices immediately.

m1.png

Back when I was working in exotel, we tried to redesign the greeting applet which enabled users to type custom messages that could be played out before a call. We had a TTS engine integration and we eventually moved to Amazon's Polly API which enabled a lot of added functionality like voice options and speech speed configuration. This a mobile UI version I made in retrospect as a personal project.

I'm Part Designer and Part Synthesist, on a quest to master the universal nature of waves across their full spectrum. If I'm not found prototyping or asking silly usability questions, I'm either fiddling with the visual range of waves, making alternate brands or graphic art for fun, some times I dive in to the audible range of waves and make weird noises with my synths or try to figure out Ableton.
